How surety bond premium is calculated

Bond amount times the rate a surety quotes you, plus any minimum premium. Work the arithmetic and see what moves the rate.

Education only. Not a quote. Global Guarantors doesn't publish premium rates or quotes, and we couldn't find public rate ranges we'd stand behind for every bond type and credit profile. So this tool doesn't guess a rate for you. It shows how premium is worked out once a surety or broker gives you a rate.

A surety bond premium is a fee the principal pays the surety for extending its credit. It isn't an insurance premium priced for expected losses: the surety expects to be repaid by the principal and its indemnitors if it ever pays a claim, which our surety vs insurance and indemnity explainer covers. That's why underwriting looks at the principal's credit, finances and experience, as described in Surety 101.

Where your rate comes from

Each surety sets its own rate through its underwriting and filed rates. We don't publish rates, and credit tiers such as "standard" or "high-risk" aren't public, standardized categories. Ask the surety or broker which rate applies to you, whether a minimum premium applies, and whether the rate is tiered by bond amount. See our contract surety guide and commercial surety guide for how bonds are underwritten.
