Payment bond claim deadline calculator

Enter your last day of work or supply and see the notice and lawsuit deadlines for federal, state and Canadian payment bonds, with the source for each rule.

Rules last verified: October 11, 2026 (PT)

Education only, not legal advice. This calculator adds calendar days to the date you enter, using the rules summarized in our guides. Courts apply bond deadlines strictly, and the bond itself, day-counting rules, weekends and holidays, and the facts of your job can change the answer. Confirm with the statute, the bond and construction counsel before relying on any date. Dates are not moved for weekends or holidays. If a deadline falls on one, don't assume you get the next business day; file earlier, check the statute and ask counsel.

Pick the law or bond form behind your job, your tier, and the last day you supplied labor or material. The rules come from our Miller Act and little Miller Act guide and our payment bond claim guide for subcontractors and suppliers. In Canada it covers the CCDC 222-2024 labour and material payment bond and the Ontario Form 31 payment bond; other provinces depend on the bond issued, so read it. Holdback and lien timing is a different clock.

How the dates are worked out

Where a deadline runs from your last labor or material, we add the stated number of calendar days, or one calendar year, to the date you enter. Where a deadline runs from something else, such as acceptance of the project, a recorded notice of completion, the contractor's last work or the date your notice was mailed, we show the rule and the statute instead of a date. Georgia is left out because our check of its public works bond rules wasn't complete.
